The figure is built from very few lines, which is unusual for this subject and makes the sheet suitable for a child or for anyone who wants a calm twenty minutes rather than an hour of detail. The Buddha sits cross legged on a wide open lotus, hands folded loosely in the lap, eyes closed, the mouth a short curve. The robe falls in about six long folds across the chest and arms with nothing inside them, so each fold is a large clean area. The topknot and the hair are covered in small raised dots, and those dots are the only fussy part of the drawing. Two tall lotus flowers rise on straight stems at the left and right, each with pointed petals wrapped around a bud, and two smaller closed buds sit lower down. The throne petals beneath the figure spread out in two ranks. A traditional palette gives the robe a warm saffron or ochre, the lotus a soft pink deepening toward the base of each petal, and the leaves a muted green. Everything else can stay white and the page will still read as finished.
