A spider hangs on a single thread straight down the middle of this page and comes to rest just above the brow of a calavera. Its body is drawn as two open rounded shapes with eight jointed legs reaching out, and fine web lines stretch away from it toward both temples. Nothing about it is filled in, so even the spider can be colored. The skull below has heavy beaded rings around both open sockets, a long heart nose outlined twice, and a wide grin of square teeth. Shallow folds mark the cheeks and chin. The thread runs right off the top of the sheet, which makes the spider feel like it is still dropping. Children who like a bit of creep will go straight for this one, and it stays friendly because nothing on the face is frightening. Color the spider in a strong shade and the skull in paler tones so the eye lands on the right thing first. The thread should stay plain, otherwise it stops reading as silk and starts reading as a stem.
