Sugar Skull Ringed by Sunflower Petals Coloring Page

The calavera here sits at the heart of a sunflower. Long pointed petals radiate out from behind the skull in two overlapping layers, so the whole page reads as one enormous bloom with a face at its center. Fine strokes fan inward from the petal bases toward the head and tie the two halves together. On the skull itself a loose spiral curls across the forehead and scrolled brows arch over both eye sockets, which stay open and white. Short lashes mark the lower rim of each socket. A narrow heart forms the nose and the teeth run in one even row. Sunflowers are a gift for colorists because the petals are already separated for you. Running a gradient around the ring, pale at the top and deep at the bottom, gives the bloom a light source without any shading inside the shapes. Keep the skull lighter than the petals so it does not disappear into them. This sheet carries more line work than the simple faces here and suits a teenager or an adult rather than a young child.
