Sugar Skull Cupcake Coloring Page

A small decorated calavera perches on top of a swirl of frosting, drawn as its own closed shape with a clean line separating it from the icing below. A five petal flower sits on its brow with a curl on each side, its sockets are open circles edged with beading, and a tidy row of square teeth runs along the jaw. The frosting beneath it coils round twice and meets the case in one smooth unbroken line. The case itself is a deep fluted cup with about a dozen vertical folds, every panel left blank. Those folds are the best part of this page. Alternating two shades down the case gives you the pleated paper look in about a minute, and it is the easiest trick on this site for making a flat drawing look three dimensional. Keep the skull pale against darker frosting so it still reads as the thing sitting on top. This one suits a child of six or seven and finishes comfortably in a single sitting.
