Here is the same skull as the front view, turned to show its profile. The cranium swells back in one long curve with a suture line running across it, the brow ridge juts forward above a deep round orbit, and the cheekbone arches back toward the ear. The jaw hangs below in a single heavy sweep with a full row of teeth meeting along the bite. Only a handful of interior lines break up the bone, so most of this page is large open shape. Profile is the view that teaches the most. From the front a skull looks like a mask, but from the side you can see how far the jaw sits behind the teeth and how much of the head is actually behind the ear, which is the proportion most beginners get wrong by a wide margin. Warm grays and bone creams suit it. Deepen the hollow of the orbit and the notch under the cheekbone a shade or two and the whole form turns solid. Keep the dome pale so it still reads as the highest point.
