A full rack of antlers spreads across the top of this page, branching into five tines on each side with every point drawn in. The beams are heavy where they leave the head and taper as they rise, and short burrs ring the base of each one. Below them the skull runs long and narrow down the sheet, split by a single suture line, with the nasal opening drawn at the bottom and the eye sockets cut deep into the bone on either side. Bucks drop their antlers every winter and grow a new set the following spring, so a rack like this one is about six months old at most. Knowing that tends to change how people color it. Bone takes warm creams and pale ochres better than pure white, and letting the antler tips go a shade darker than the beams matches what actually happens to them out in the weather. This is a long sitting, mostly because the antlers have so many separate sections. Pencils hold the taper better than markers.
