Take a note of one thing before printing: the title mentions a monocle, but there is no monocle in the finished drawing. What you have instead is a tall top hat, tilted slightly and rendered with a curved brim, a ribbon band and a small embossed crest on the crown. Beneath it the skull is drawn with real weight, both sockets shaded with dense diagonal hatching so they read as deep hollows rather than flat black, a narrow nasal opening, hatched shadow along both cheekbones and a long row of pointed teeth. Below the jaw a wide collar or cravat opens out to both sides with a decorative floral knot at its center, and an oval frame of curling scrollwork sits behind the whole figure with a large flourish filling the bottom edge. The hat gives this page its character and deserves the strongest shade you have, black or a deep charcoal, with the ribbon band picked out separately. Keep the bone in a warm ivory rather than pure white so it separates from the paper. The hatched sockets will take a light gray wash over the top without losing the line direction underneath.
