A toucan fills most of this page, seen from the side with its enormous bill reaching almost to the left edge. The bill is drawn cleanly, just a serrated line along the cutting edge and one band near the base, so it stays a big open shape in the middle of a busy sheet. Behind the bird hangs a round medallion packed with dark pebble shapes, each a small spiral or oval set into heavy black, and it is by far the darkest area anywhere on the page. Broad veined leaves crowd in from the bottom and both sides, the branch runs across the lower third, and a scatter of thin vines and curls decorates the top edge. That medallion has already made your contrast decision for you. Against something so dark the bill needs strong saturated color, and the breast can afford to stay mostly white. The leaves below are large and repetitive and are best handled in two or three greens worked in alternation, which stops the lower third reading as one solid mass underneath the bird.
