A swan with its wing raised among six lily pads, very little ink and the whole top half of the sheet left empty.

A swan glides across the lower half of this page with its wing raised in a soft arch and its neck curved forward. Six lily pads float around it, four marked with the usual notch and a couple of vein lines, and a few loose ripples trail away to the right. The bird is small relative to the sheet and sits low and a little left of the middle, leaving the top half of the page completely empty. There is very little ink anywhere. The swan's body is one open shape broken only by the scalloped edge of the raised wing, the neck carries a few short strokes, and the bill has a small dark patch at its base. Nothing here needs a fine tip. That makes it a genuinely restful sheet and a sensible choice for a first page after a long break, or for anyone who wants to finish something in a single sitting. If the emptiness above bothers you, the water is where to solve it: extending the ripple lines upward and grading a pale blue from the bottom edge fills the space without adding any drawing.
