Kingfisher Perched Above A Clear Stream Coloring Page

A kingfisher perches on a broken log angling up from the lower left, body turned toward you and head held in profile under a long dagger of a bill. The crown is drawn as tight overlapping scales, the breast is speckled with short dashes, and the folded wing is built from three rows of layered feathers. To the right of the log a stream runs off the page as loose parallel ripples with a few smooth pebbles resting in it. Cosmos flowers and buds crowd the lower left corner, and two delicate sprigs of leaves and berries hang at the upper left and middle right. The top right corner is left completely blank. That blank corner is deliberate breathing space and the page looks better if you leave it alone. The bird is the only heavily textured thing on the sheet and can take a strong blue and orange without competing against anything. Keep the water pale. Its ripple lines sit widely apart and a heavy hand there pulls the eye straight down and away from the bird, which is the one thing this composition cannot afford.
