Chrome is what separates a truck drawing from a truck. A big rig carries polished exhaust stacks, a mirrored grille, fuel tanks and bumpers, and none of those can be colored, they can only be left mostly white with hard dark edges. These truck coloring pages run from big rigs and tankers to dump trucks, fire trucks, tow trucks and an ice cream truck. Each downloads as a free printable PDF sized for US Letter paper.
Big Rig Semi Truck on the Highway is the best sheet here for practicing chrome, since the stacks, grille and tanks are all drawn. Dump Truck With Raised Bed Full of Rocks has the most going on and is the one young children choose. Delivery Truck With Boxes is the simplest, and the large blank side panel is an invitation to invent a company logo.
The tractor unit and the trailer are worth coloring as two different things. Real rigs pair a brightly painted cab with a plain aluminum or white trailer, because the two are usually owned by different companies. Giving the cab the strong color and keeping the trailer pale makes the drawing look like an actual truck on an actual road.
Wheels and tires are the other half of a truck drawing, and there are a lot of them, since a full rig carries eighteen. Do not fill them with solid black. Use a dark warm gray across the tread with a slightly lighter band along the top of each tire where the light lands, keep true black for the shadow where the rubber meets the road, and give the rims a separate treatment so the polished metal reads as a different material from the tire around it. On Big Rig Semi Truck on the Highway that is a good ten minutes of work on its own, and it is the difference between a truck sitting on the road and one that appears to float above it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you color chrome?
Mostly leave it alone. Keep the chrome as bare paper, add a hard-edged dark gray band across the lower third of each rounded surface, and a thin dark line at the very top. Chrome reflects its surroundings, so the sky above shows as pale and the road below as dark, that abrupt light-over-dark split is what the eye reads as polished metal.
Why are truck cabs and trailers different colors?
Because they are often owned separately. A haulage company paints its tractor units in its own livery, while trailers are frequently leased, shared or belong to the shipper, and are left plain white or bare aluminum. Coloring the cab brightly and the trailer pale is both accurate and better looking.
Which truck page suits the youngest children?
Dump Truck With Raised Bed Full of Rocks, which is built from a few large simple shapes with thick outlines and works from about age three. The semi truck has more small detail in the grille and stacks and suits ages six and up.
What is the difference between a semi truck and a tractor trailer?
They are the same vehicle under two names. The tractor is the powered unit with the cab and engine, the trailer is the unpowered box it tows, and "semi" refers to the trailer resting part of its weight on the tractor rather than carrying it all on its own wheels. A rig running with no trailer attached is called a bobtail.
