Winter Snowman Coloring Page

A tall snowman stands in the middle of the sheet with a child on either side of him, both bundled into coats and knitted hats, arms flung up in the air. He wears a striped bobble hat and a long scarf whose ends trail down past his middle, and he has three round buttons, a carrot nose and bare twig arms. A house with a chimney sits behind his shoulder, and fir trees close in at both edges. Big round flakes fall across the whole sky. Every shape is large and clearly separated, so a four or five year old can work through it unaided.

Most of this picture is snow, which means most of it stays white paper, and that is not a problem. Put the color into the two children and into the hat and scarf, and the sheet will hold together on its own. Anyone who wants to push further can lay a pale blue in the hollows under the drifts and stop there.

Snow is not actually white. Ice is clear, and a snowbank only looks white because the countless tiny surfaces inside it scatter every color of light back at you at the same time.
