An igloo caught half built, the dome still open, one child lifting a fresh block into place.

Three children are part way through building an igloo, and the artist has drawn it at exactly the right moment. The lower courses of snow blocks are complete and spiral upward, the dome is open at the top, and one child is lifting a fresh block into place while another cuts one from a drift with a flat saw. Every block is drawn separately with its own texture. The block work is repetitive and fine, so this suits patient older children, teenagers and adults.
All those blocks are an opportunity rather than a chore. Vary the tone very slightly from block to block, some left white, some given the faintest gray or blue, and the dome will look built from real cut snow instead of drawn on. Shade the open doorway darkest of all, since that contrast is what gives the igloo depth.
An igloo works because snow is mostly air, roughly nine parts trapped air to one part ice, and trapped air is an excellent insulator. With a few people inside and the entrance tunnel dug lower than the floor so cold air sinks away, the inside can sit far above the temperature outdoors.
