Owl On A Bare Branch Coloring Page

A round owl faces straight out from this page with two enormous eyes and a pair of ear tufts standing up on its head. Rows of soft feather shapes run down its chest, each one an open curve rather than a closed outline, so the breast reads as feathery without turning into detail work. Two wing shapes fold along its sides. Its feet grip a bare branch that stretches across the lower third of the page. The branch has lost every leaf, which is the one detail that places this owl firmly in the colder half of the year. Owls hunt at night, so this page takes color that other animal pages do not. Deep blue, purple, and gray all suit it. The big eyes give a child an easy decision early on, and once those are done the rest of the bird follows quickly. The feather curves on the chest look best when you keep them light and let the outline carry the drawing. Print this alongside the bare branch pages in this collection and build a small nighttime scene.
