Barn With A Weathervane Coloring Page

A wooden barn stands square in the middle of this page with a rooster weathervane turning on the roof ridge. The walls are built from rows of planks, the roof is laid in overlapping shingles, and a wide double door sits in the front wall with a cross brace on each half. A small four pane window sits above the door. A plain fence runs away to the left and three round hay bales rest on the ground to the right. Barns are a satisfying subject because they are made of repeating parts. Planks, shingles, and fence rails all want the same treatment, and once a child settles into a rhythm the page moves quickly. Color the planks in two close tones and the wall gains the weathered look real barns have. The roof takes a darker shade and the whole building reads correctly at a glance. The weathervane is a small shape at the very top and makes a good finishing touch once everything else is done. Grass runs across the bottom of the page and needs very little work.
