Three round portholes run down the side of this rocket, and the two lower ones each hold a tiny face looking out at the reader. The nose cone tapers to a sharp point, a single seam band separates it from the body, and two curved fins flare out at the base. Below them a narrow jet of flame pushes down into a pile of round, puffy smoke that spreads across the bottom of the sheet. Nothing here is crowded. The outlines are thick and widely spaced, so a crayon or a chunky marker will not skip over any gaps, and the huge white area above the nose cone gives plenty of room to add your own stars, planets or a distant moon. Colorers who like to keep things tidy can treat each smoke puff as its own shape. Colorers who prefer speed can sweep one color across the whole cloud bank in a few strokes. Flames usually get the warm end of the box, so try red at the tip, orange in the middle and a bright yellow core. Print it on standard letter paper and it works for preschool hands as well as older kids.
