A boy sits cross legged in the middle of this page inside a fort that has been built entirely out of books. Two round towers rise at the left and right, each one a tall stack of volumes with a notched crown at the top, and a battlemented wall runs between them with square gaps along its upper edge.
Every block in the structure is a book seen end on, drawn as a plain rectangle with one or two lines scored down its spine, and they are stacked in neat courses like masonry. Two tall curtains of books frame the opening where the boy sits.
He is holding an open book up in front of him with both hands, looking down into it and smiling. His hair is short and spiky, he wears a collared top, and he is perched on another stack of books that serves as a seat. More books lean against the walls on both sides.
Nothing is written on any spine, so the whole fort is a grid of blank panels. That is the appeal here: dozens of same sized rectangles, which makes it an easy page to turn into a pattern.
