Three children kneel around a square wooden sandbox, drawn at an angle so you can see the wide plank rim running all the way around. A tall peaked shape rises out of the sand in the center and the child in the middle is steadying it with both hands, while the two on either side reach in from the rim. All three are grinning, with freckles dotted across their cheeks, and the one on the right wears a ponytail tied high. Tufts of grass sprout at the left and right, and loose grains are scattered on the ground outside the box.
The box itself is four flat panels, which gives a younger child somewhere easy to start before tackling the faces.
Sand is a trap worth warning about. Pale yellow across the whole surface looks washed out; leaving most of it white and putting a light tone only in the shadowed corners reads far more like sand.
Damp sand holds its shape because a thin film of water pulls the grains together. Completely dry sand collapses and so does sand that is soaking wet, which is why the best castles get built near the tide line.
