There is one object on this page and it is enormous. An ice cream bar lies at an angle across the middle of the sheet, its wooden stick pointing up toward the top right corner, and a single wavy line of drizzle loops over its surface. Nothing else has been drawn, no plate, no table, no background pattern.
That is deliberate. A toddler holding a fat crayon for the first time needs one boundary to aim at rather than twenty, and this outline is thick, rounded at every corner and closed the whole way around. The drizzle splits the bar into two loose regions for a child who wants to use two colors, and it can be ignored completely by a child who does not.
For older children the sheet has a second use as a quick warm up or as a blank surface to invent on. Some add sprinkles, a bite mark or a name along the stick. Because the interior is almost empty, marker, crayon, paint and even torn paper collage all work on it without crowding anything else out.
