A turkey stands with its tail fanned wide behind it, every feather in the fan drawn as a separate open shape.

The fan is what makes this page. Behind the bird, a dozen tall rounded feathers spread out in a half circle from low on one side, up over the head and down again on the other, and because each is drawn as its own closed shape they can be worked around the arc in a sequence of colors or left as alternating pairs. The turkey in front of it is much simpler. Its body is a large egg shape with a single wing laid across it as a curved petal and a few strokes at the tip. The head is small and round with one big eye, a short pointed beak and a long soft wattle hanging from it. Two thin legs come down from the body and open into wide splayed toes that hold the bird steady. Nothing sits under the feet to anchor it and no background shows behind the fan, so the outline of that arc stays crisp against the paper. Working from the outside feathers inward tends to give the neatest result, and the body can be left until last.
