Puss In Boots With A Sword

Everything that makes this character recognizable is on the page at once. The boots come first, tall and folded over into wide cuffs at the knee, drawn big enough that each one can take a different treatment without the sheet looking odd. Above them sits a short tunic with a jagged hem and a ruffle at the collar, cinched by a heavy belt whose square buckle is drawn as an outline within an outline. The hat is broad brimmed with a single feather curving up from the band, and the cat's pointed ears push up through the brim on either side. Its face is the simplest part, just two large round eyes, a small triangular nose, a curved smile and three whiskers sweeping out from each cheek. One front paw grips a sword raised beside its head, blade pointing up, with a plain crossguard where the grip meets the steel. The other paw rests in a fist at the hip. A long tail curls out to the right and ends in a hook. The whole figure stands on empty paper, so there is nothing to work around and a child can start anywhere.
