Pied Piper Playing Flute With Mice Following

The piper takes the middle of this sheet, a flute held to his lips and his free hand raised in a loose fist beside his shoulder. His cap is the feature that carries the page, a tall pointed thing that flops over at the tip and hangs down past his ear. Below it his face is round and cheerful, drawn with little more than a curved smile and a button nose. His tunic falls to the knee with three round buttons down the front and a broad belt across the middle, its square buckle left completely open for coloring. Two small mice stand upright on the right, close enough to be following and far enough away to be clearly separate animals. Each has a pair of large round ears, a long curling tail and a pair of tiny front paws held up in front of it. A single curved line runs across the lower third of the page as the ground, and below it the paper is left bare. That empty band is worth noticing, because it gives a child somewhere to rest a hand while working on the figures above without smudging anything.
