A horse fills the left half of this sheet in full profile, bridle across its nose, mane falling in thick separate locks along its neck. Look just behind its hind legs and a second set of legs comes into view, because the team is harnessed one animal in front of the other rather than side by side. The harness straps loop over the shoulders and run back in long clean lines toward the coach, giving you a set of narrow bands to pick out in a contrasting shade. The coach itself sits at the right, small and rounded with a curved roof, and its wheel is the best part of the whole page. Twelve spokes radiate from a plain round hub out to the rim, which means twelve wedge shaped gaps and a choice to make about whether they alternate or all match. The bodywork above the wheel is left as large empty panels. There is no background at all, just the team and the coach standing on white paper, so nothing competes with the horses for attention. Younger children can keep the horse one flat shade; older ones can pick out the bridle, the harness and the hooves separately.
