A tall metal locker stands in the middle of this sheet with its right-hand door swung wide. Snapshots are taped over almost every surface: portraits, group shots, a few phone screens propped among them, some straight and some tilted. A field of small dots covers the inner panel behind the photos, a combination dial sits near the door edge, and rows of vent slots run across the top and bottom of both doors. Scrolled ironwork trims the cabinet above and below.
Everything around the locker is decoration. Dozens of butterflies, daisies and leafy sprays drift across the open paper from corner to corner, and a leggy potted plant leans in from the left.
Treat the photographs as a set of tiny separate pictures and the page becomes far less daunting. Give each one two tones and stop there. The scattered butterflies can share a single palette between them so the background stays quiet behind the busier middle.
