Robot With Butterfly Wings Spread Open

A robot with butterfly wings should be a strange combination, and on this sheet it works because both halves are drawn in the same simple style. The robot stands square to the reader with its arms slightly out and its claw hands open. Its head is a rounded rectangle with two round eyes, a straight mouth and two antennae that curve up and end in small balls, which happen to double as butterfly feelers.

The wings are the real subject. They spread wide behind the shoulders, a large upper pair reaching almost to the top corners of the page and a smaller lower pair curving out and down. Each wing is divided into long rounded panels that follow the shape of the wing outward, and every one of those panels is left completely open inside. There is no shading and nothing filled in, so a child can work panel by panel and build up a pattern in whatever order they like.

The body underneath is deliberately plain: a box torso with one large blank rectangle, a belt piece, thin segmented arms and legs, and two wide boots. Keeping the robot simple is what lets the wings carry the page. Around the whole figure there is clean white space on all four sides.
