Robot Soccer Player Kicking A Ball

The moment on this sheet is the half second before contact. The robot has swung its right leg forward, lifted its left off the turf and thrown both arms out wide to stay upright. Its knees and elbows are drawn as visible hinge joints, which is what makes the stride read as mechanical rather than human.

Its head is a smooth helmet shape with a single small antenna on top, a wide dark visor holding two oval eyes, and a grin below it. The torso is a plain squared off panel with a rounded rectangle in the middle and nothing else, so there is a large clear area right at the front of the figure for a jersey number or a team pattern if a child wants to invent one.

The ball sits low and central, close enough to the reader that it is the biggest single object on the lower half of the page. Its panels are drawn properly, with pentagons meeting six sided panels around them, so the classic two tone pattern can be worked out square by square. Around it the pitch is suggested with a plain horizon line and scattered pairs of short grass strokes with plenty of white paper showing between them. The field never competes with the player.
