A round shouldered little robot has settled down on a tree root with a book. It sits with its back against the trunk and its legs stretched out along the root, holding an open book in both hands. The face is a dark visor panel with two oval eyes, which gives it a calm, unhurried expression rather than a cartoon grin. A short hook antenna curls up from the top of its head.
The tree is the largest thing on the page and it is worth the time it takes. The trunk is drawn with long vertical grain lines and a heavy root that swells out across the ground to form the seat. Above that the canopy fills the whole top half of the sheet with dozens of separate leaves, each one outlined with a single vein down the middle. Nothing in the canopy is filled in solid, so every leaf can take its own shade if a child wants to go leaf by leaf.
Under the root the ground rounds off into a small hill with sparse tufts of grass on either side. The horizon stays low and empty, which balances the weight of the canopy and keeps the sheet from feeling crowded at the bottom.
