This is a robot at the end of a long day. It has dropped into a soft armchair, let its shoulders sink below the arms of the seat and propped an enormous open book against its knees. Both pages of the book are blank, which is deliberate. There is room there to write a title, copy out a favorite line or draw the picture the robot is supposed to be looking at.
The robot's head is wide and rounded with two long antennae, one tipped with a ball and one bent to the side. Its face is two large circles for eyes and a row of small squares for a mouth, an expression that lands somewhere between content and mildly surprised. Four fingered hands grip the outer edges of the book near the bottom corners, and its feet rest on the seat cushion below.
The armchair is drawn as a soft shape rather than a detailed piece of furniture: a high rounded back, two thick rolled arms, a squared base and short legs. There is no room, no lamp and no rug behind it. Keeping the background out entirely means the shapes stay big and simple, which is exactly right for a sheet a young child will want to finish in one sitting.
