A girl fills most of this frame from the waist up, turned three quarters toward you. Her helm is rounded, banded across the brow and crested with a fleur, and her long wavy hair spills out from under it and past her shoulder. The shoulder plate carries an engraved leaf motif, the chest and upper arm are drawn as a dense field of small dots standing in for mail, and her forearms are wrapped in banded guards. In her hand she holds a tall shield worked with a cross and curling scrollwork. Large stylized flowers and stems arch behind her head.

The dotted mail is the part to plan for. Leave it pale, or even white, and it reads as metal against the solid plate. Fill it dark and it swallows the whole left side of the drawing.

Her face is drawn with real detail, lashes and all, so this one suits a teenager or an adult more than a small child.

Armor was tailored. A harness was fitted to one body the way a suit is, which is why inherited plate so often needed reworking and why no two surviving sets are quite the same shape.
