An intricate court scene: a knight on one knee, a crowned queen raising her hand, and a wall of damask scrollwork behind both.

Two figures face each other across this sheet, and the whole wall behind them is covered in a dense damask of scrolls, roses and open flowers. On the left the knight has gone down on one knee, plume curving off his helm, layered shoulder plates studded with small diamonds, a surcoat marked with a cross device, and a long cloak pooling on the floor behind him. On the right a queen stands waiting, her crown set over a long veil, one hand lifted palm outward, her gown and mantle worked with embroidery from collar to hem.

This is an adult sheet and it does not pretend otherwise. The background pattern alone will take an evening, and it rewards fine liners or sharp pencils over anything broad.

One approach that works: hold the damask to two or three muted tones so it stays a backdrop, then put your saturated color into the gown and the cloak. If you fill the pattern as brightly as the figures, the two people disappear into the wallpaper.

The ceremony being shown is the accolade. The word comes from the Latin for neck, because the original gesture was an embrace rather than the tap on each shoulder that later replaced it.
