First Snowflakes Over Bare Branches Coloring Page

Eight snowflakes drift across the lower two thirds of this sheet, and every one is built the same honest way: six arms spreading evenly from a round center, each arm ending in a small forked tip. They vary in size rather than in shape, and they sit far enough apart that there is white paper visible around all of them. Two leafless branches reach in from the upper corners, one from the left and one from the right, splitting into fine twigs that thin out toward the middle of the page. Those branches are drawn with a much lighter line than the snowflakes, which sets up the depth for you. Work the twigs in a pale gray and the flakes will float in front of them without any other effort. The round center of each flake is a closed circle and makes an obvious place for a darker accent or a spot of silver. Snow is white, so the usual advice applies in reverse here: color the sky, not the snowflakes. A wash of pale blue or lilac across the background will make eight untouched white shapes appear out of nowhere, and that is a satisfying thing for a child to watch happen.
