A dolphin fills most of this sheet, drawn from the side and heading right, with a curved dorsal fin, two flippers and a wide tail fluke. The body is one long smooth outline with almost nothing inside it.
Above and well clear of it a small hero swims in the same direction, arms reaching forward, mask on and cape trailing out behind. The two never touch. That gap of open paper between them is what gives the page its sense of depth, with the animal close to you and the swimmer further off.
The size difference is the reason to color them differently. A dolphin done in one smooth gradient, pale along the belly and deepening over the back, looks like an animal underwater. The hero is small enough that a single flat color reads perfectly well and keeps him from competing.
There is no water drawn anywhere, so the paper between the two figures does the work instead. Adding a few pale horizontal strokes across the background suggests current without closing the space in. Two small marks near the top of the sheet are the only other things on the page.
