The cat sits upright and looks left, tail tucked away and front paws set neatly on the ground. A wide band crosses the brow from ear to ear with one eye showing beneath it, three whisker lines sweep out from the muzzle, and a short curve of a mouth sits under a small triangular nose.
Behind the shoulders a cape is fastened at the neck and drops in one broad sheet, kicking out at the bottom edge. Between the cape and the body there is a good deal of open paper, and the whole animal carries almost no interior line work at all, which suits a young child with a fat crayon.
This one rewards restraint. Two colors will finish it: one for the cat, one for the cape and mask together. Trying to add markings to the coat fights the drawing, because the shapes were left open on purpose.
If an older child wants more to do, the pointed ears have inner shapes that take a lighter tone, and the whiskers can be traced over in a pale pencil so they survive against a dark coat. Otherwise the fastest route to a finished page is to fill the body flat and let the cape carry the contrast.
