An old pirate is drawn in close portrait across this page, turned three quarters toward you and cropped at the chest. The beard is the centerpiece: an enormous cascade of long wavy strands that falls from the cheeks right down past the bottom of the sheet, each lock picked out with its own flowing line, joined by a drooping mustache and bushy eyebrows.

He wears a round pair of spectacles, the far lens plain and the near one shaded darker, and a battered tricorn hat with a soft crumpled crown sits low over his brow. Long hair spills out from beneath it.

Across his shoulder runs a wide bandolier carrying three large cylindrical charges with ringed caps, and the striped grip of a cutlass rises at the right. His coat is heavy, with a quilted panel at the shoulder.

Worth knowing before you print: this is a head and shoulders portrait, so despite the title there is no peg leg in frame and he wears glasses rather than a patch. Fine curling flourishes fill the top corners in a much lighter line.
