The ship leans hard to starboard with its bow driving up out of the swell, and the mainsail carries a face: two hollow eyes and an open mouth pressed through the canvas from behind. That sail is the largest clear area on the sheet, so whatever you do to it decides the mood of the whole page, and leaving it white with only the eyes and mouth filled black is the strongest option. Everything around it is dense.
