Stone blocks are the reason to print this. They run across the lower half in uneven courses, no two quite the same size, every one a closed shape waiting for a color. Climbing over them is a ninja with a sword held high and the ends of his hood streaming behind him, drawn in the same clean heavy outline as the rest of the set. Above him the paper is simply empty, which is unusual on this site and genuinely useful. Younger children can leave it alone. Anyone who wants more can put a sky there, or a moon, or nothing at all and let the white do the work. The wall itself invites a systematic approach: four or five grays cycled block by block will look like real masonry, while going the other way and making each block a different bright color turns the same drawing into something closer to a quilt. The figure needs only two or three tones since there is little detail inside his outfit. Small hands can manage every shape on this page without straying, and it prints well at any size.
