A twelve pointed black star sits at the middle of this design with a small flower inside it, and from there the pattern moves outward along chains of rounded beads that link the center to the outer ring. Between those chains are keyhole shaped diamonds, and between the diamonds sit broad lobed shapes that meet each other edge to edge without any gap, which is what makes the pattern tessellate. The outer boundary is scalloped into twelve heavy lobes. There is a great deal of solid black here, more than on most of the geometric sheets, and it is distributed evenly so the page carries a strong rhythm before any color goes down. The bead chains are the thing worth exploiting: color them as a continuous line in one color and they visibly pull the eye from the middle to the rim, which is hard to achieve on a mandala where every ring gets treated separately. Keep the lobes in a second color and the keyholes in a third and the whole design will read in three moves.
