Stripped back is the best description. The excavator sits in profile on a pair of tracks, its body a rounded block with a cab and a single side window, and the arm reaches out to the right and down toward a small hill of earth. The bucket at the end shows a few teeth along its edge. Track frames are drawn as a long loop with a wheel at each end and a row of short marks for the links. Ground is one soft wavy line with two or three small stones on it. Almost nothing is decorated. That restraint makes this one of the quickest wins in the collection. There are perhaps a dozen separate areas on the whole sheet, all of them generous, and a child can go from blank page to finished picture in a few minutes. It also means the page takes bold color well, since there are no fine lines for a marker to swamp. If someone wants to spend longer, the mound of earth can be broken up into layers, and the track links can each be done separately. Good for very young children and good for a quick print.
